For today, a very suave video from the capital of France; Maya - Lait de Coco. In the YouTube comment section, this is also referred to as "an absolute cinematic tour de France," and we couldn't have described it better ourselves.
Philippe Touboul's musical career is straightforward: the radio presenter who passed away in 2009 released only two records during his lifetime. Lait de Coco is a kind of holy grail for fans of French funk tunes: the Discogs median of "Lait de Coco," Touboul's debut single under the name Maya, is set at 175 EUR. Why, that is easy to hear: the track is an unabashed, extremely sun-soaked quasi-cover version of Level 42's "Why Are You Leaving," enveloped in a hard-to-grasp exotic atmosphere.
Balearic, Brazilian, Caribbean, Latin American? All of the above, stirred and not shaken - with a hint of coconut milk, of course. After the dub version of the track was last heard on the compilation "French Disco Boogie Sounds Vol. 3 (1977-1987)," you come across the song (and the video) regularly on social media, which, as far as we're concerned, is no problem.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself on a Côte d'Azur beach with perhaps a nice cocktail within reach.
